Social Concern

hospital picture

We are concerned to communicate the gospel through our inter-action with local organizations that seek to bring social relief to those in need.

Our support is expressed in the following ways

Genesis Trust

We support the work of Genesis Trust financially. This Trust provides a service to those who are homeless or who are in financial difficulties by providing meals, the provision of furniture, etc. Genesis Trust Website

Soup Run

The Soup Run is organised through The Genesis Trust and run by various churches in Bath 365 days of the year for the homeless and needy of our City. Our Church has responsibility for Monday evenings and provides a team that prepares hot food and sandwiches and a team that goes out in the evening to the allotted site. This is situated at the Old Cattle Market Walcott Street.

As well as being able to demonstrate God’s love in a practical way by distributing food and clothes, we are there to listen, showing care and compassion, sharing our faith when appropriate, and giving spiritual assistance where this is sought. We are also able to introduce clients to The Genesis Trust Lifeline Centre, the Lunch Box Centre and Sunday Centre support facilities.

Hospital service

Together with other Bath churches we take responsibility for the RUH 'Songs of Praise' Service on one Sunday each month.

The Church team aims to reach out to hospital patients with the Good News of Jesus in a caring and compassionate way. This is achieved throiugh contact with the patients when inviting them to the Service and in the context of the Service itself, which includes an epilogue with a clear Christian message. This work supplements the effective witness of the Chaplain and his team.

Our church members also act as hospital volunteers and members of the hospital Chaplaincy team.

Bridgecare

Bridge Care is a residential home for the frail elderly in Bath which is run on a Christian basis. We played a significant part in the establishment of this home and we provide a service through the work of volunteers in providing help of a practical nature.

We are also able to share the responsibility for worship services that are taken by churches in Bath each week.

Various members of the church take an active interest in other areas of social concern. Amongst these are the work of Dorothy House, Winsley; Pilgrim Homes, Chippenham and the work of Gideons International.
